John began painting at age 18, inspired first by his mother and later by his own children. Today, his art reflects both his personal journey and his deep cultural roots. On his mother’s side, John is Bundjalung from Fingal in northeast New South Wales; on his father’s side, he carries the heritage of his grandfather’s people from Rotuma Island in Fiji. His signature “kangaroo sunset” style—instantly recognizable and widely loved—is a standout feature in this piece.
