Warlukurlangu Artists is based in Yuendumu, about 3.5 hours drive NW from Alice Springs. Established in 1985, it is one of the most significant Aboriginal Art centres in Australia. Over 400 women, men and children make up the membership of the Association, open to Warlpiri and anmatyerre people form Yuendumu and surrounding homelands. The art centre is 100% Aboriginal owned, and as befits its non-profit making status, returns over two thirds of the proceeds from sales of artwork to its membership.
Specialising in acyrlic paintings, screen prints and etchingd, large canvas commissions, traditional artifacts and sand paintings, the art centre seeks to foster a growing understanding of Indigenous culture and enhance the lives of the local people.
Warlukurlangu functions as a living repository for that culture, arranging visits to country, storing sacred artifacts for use in public and sacred ceremonies, and documenting its rich archive for the benefit of scholars and visitors alike.
It is a very welcoming community constantly taking volunteers from all around the world to share in it's everyday workings and magic.
