Bush foods & survival plants of South East Australia - Jamie Simpson

This field guide Identifies the usable natural assets. Plants are easily identified with pictures and descriptions and farming opportunities identified and discussed.

'Jamie Simpson has spent decades studying Melbournes Indigenous culture. Growing up in bushland on the Mornington Peninsula Jamie observed the seasonal changes within the environment and made particular observation of the edible and useful indigenous plant. Combined with further research into colonial archives he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge. Jamie is qualified with a Diploma of Horticulture and Training to be able to present his life's study, sharing this little known but extremely important information. His presentation includes looking at plant uses for survival. Identifying plants used for food, medicine and hardwares specifically to Melbourne area.'

Unprofessional IP theft from aboriginal folk

Book is written by a whitefella (which I have no trouble with), who consulted indigenous elders for information but has not redistributed any profits to my knowledge. Also book contains many typos, poor quality pictures and even some completely wrong pictures of other species. Would not buy again

I agree with another review here at some of the photos are quite blurred and indistinct and as they are half of each page they could be much better. Information is brief but useful. The size and format is disappointing being a little more than A5 but compact as field guide I guess. Fairly modest ~100pages. ~$45 seems a bit expensive for the size, compared to field guides of birds etc.
Delivery was quite quick - 5 days but the book had some minor damage to the edge of the back cover.

Not very good

This is like a school project by a 13 year old, rather than a field guide. There is only the absolute minimum information and some sub par photographs. It would be usefull as a research guide. But not in the field.
Service and delivery were vreat.

Great service

The book arrived really fast and we all loved it! My kids enjoy looking through beautiful pictures and reading about native plants.
