This hardwood hunting boomerang is painted by local artist John Rotumah and made by local craftsman Michael Walker.
Both John and Michael have been apart of our Planet Corroboree family from our beginning days back in 2002.
JOHN ROTUMAH - From the young age of 18 John had a talent for painting.
Inspired by both his mother and his own children, John has been painting for over 30 years, spending 25 of those as a professional artist. His work, spanning various mediums, has reached audiences around the world. One of the most recognizable features of his style is the depiction of kangaroo sunsets, which have become a signature element in his art.
John's mothers family come from the Minjungbal people around where he grew up in Fingal, beside the ocean in Northeast NSW.He carries his father's name who came from Rotuma Island within Fiji.
John has been providing us with his stunning artwork since our early days in the 2000s. We’re proud to purchase his pieces directly from him.
MICHAEL WALKER - Michael is a Bundjalung man who ran a boomerang factory for many years from Kyogle. These days he lives in Darwin but travels back to country once a year and stops in with boomerangs for us. We get local artists like John to paint them.
These boomerangs are all lacquered twice with a satin vanish to protect and preserve the wood and artwork.
Made with native Australian Eucalyptus timber.
